BOOK REVIEW : RECLAIM YOUR HEART

by - February 19, 2018

Assalamualaikum !

This one of the book or should I call most-inspirational book that I've read during my favorite time was "Reclaim Your Heart" by Yasmin Mogahed.

I first heard about Reclaim Your Heart from friends and bloggers who have spoken about how it has quite literally changed their lives. Curiosity got the better of me, so I ordered it. When I first saw it and noticed it was a thin book for about 168 pages, I wasn't expecting much of it. By the time I finished the first chapter, I realized my presumptions before reading it were completely wrong.

This gonna be my honest review. It would be a BIG YES! When I started to read a few pages, it hit me so hard. The way the writer put her words and relate real life situation with Quran verse. It was AMAZING! It was a book written to awaken the heart and provide a new perspective of love, loss, happiness and pain.

Throughout the book, though she covers many aspects of life and faith, she consistently reminds us of purpose. Everything has its purpose. At one point, she spoke about the verse "Verily with hardship comes ease" (Surah Insyirah 5-6) and how she misinterpreted it for much of her life. She, along with many others have at one point interpreted this verse to say that Allah has given us a systematic structure that ease will come after hardship, when the verse clearly states that hardship comes with ease. Perspective is key and things may not always be what they seem. Mercy is in everything, and not only must we treat hardships as blessings, but we must also find hardship in periods of percieved ease.

Based on those explanation, I've realized that we as a human being, as a Muslim especially should put our trust and dependence on Allah SWT only. Allah should be the one that we seek first as he is the nearest to us. Somehow, I realized that in this life I used to depend on peoples, materials not knowing that those people will die sooner or later. And those material thingy would be broken or lost.

So, I would update on other topics soon, InsyaAllah. This is one of the book that I'll read over and over again.
